The building designed by the Caprioglio Architects Studio for a private customer (F+T+3 are his initials plus the number of his children) meets the request for a building with a clear, contemporary design and a formal purity composed of sharp lines and taut shapes.
On the ground floor, the entrance flows directly into the living area, and then continues, in line, to the kitchen, which plays a fundamental pivot role in the construction as the hinge for the structure’s L-shaped design.
Natural light floods in through large windows to fill the whole environment and clearly define the living room space located on its south-eastern and western sides.
Between the entrance and the living area are the first steps of the staircase that is inserted in a protruding volume that is suspended above the ground, so it generates a double height space over the dining area.
The staircase leads up to the first floor that terminates in a balcony with a parapet of glass overlooking the floor below. A steel and glass walkway reaches the study located on the south side, whereas the three bedrooms are entered from a normal corridor.
Outside, the distinctive swimming pool is visible from all the rooms on the ground floor.
In a house so full of natural light, the luminaires for the artificial lighting have all been carefully concealed, except for the IXI lamp sculpture, that was specifically designed by the architect, Caprioglio, for the double-height space above the large Saarinen table. The recessed Laser Blade is used in its various versions and optics: Laser Blade High Contrast or Wall Washer, Laser Blade L and Laser Blade XS, a pendant version of which is also used in the kitchen.
Outside, a minimalist lighting system has been installed to highlight key details in the building’s structure, including wall-mounted Walky luminaires that discreetly indicate the length of the walls while its bollard version illuminates certain areas of the garden. The house’s construction also features several sustainable solutions, including natural ventilation, geothermal energy, and rainwater recovery that recently helped it win the Lifestyle Luxury Award 2021 in New York.
