Forlì University Campus

The former hospital in Forlì, a complex of early twentieth century pavilions on the edge of the town's historic centre, has recently been converted into a University Campus. The project, ordered by the Municipal Administration, was preceded by a two-stage international design competition organised by the Forlì Municipal Authorities in 1998, and the winning team consisted of the following architects: Lamberto Rossi, Massimo Galletta, Roberto Lazzarini, Marco Tarabella and Paolo Zilli.
The project involved iGuzzini providing its products and know-how in the construction of the lighting system designed by the architectural studio.
The artificial lighting system had to be efficient, guarantee the lighting levels required by the various contexts and highlight the architectural structure of the complex.
The product used to light the lobby has been specifically designed for this context. “Fiammifero” is basically an industrial production bollard in a range of 3 different sizes and powers. One is 2 metres high with LEDs and 99 W of power, and another is 2.60 metres high with a power of 99 or 65 W. The diffuser screen is made of satin-finish methacrylate. This luminaire provides general lighting in the lobby area, aided by an indirect light component that combines iN60 luminaires installed at a 30° angle and Linealuce luminaires that create a grazing effect on the lift access area.
Further light is provided by Reglette luminaires, installed in the grooves in the suspended ceilings along the corridors. White light LED Linealuce devices are installed in the same way on the stairs. The colour temperature used for the entire building is 4000K and all the luminaires are controlled by a DALI system that allows the integration of natural and artificial light to be monitored. The interiors of the 9 lecture halls are lit by Lineup luminaires managed by a control system and fitted with a sensor that indicates faults in the emergency lamps too.
